Headed to "the cabin"

For my 29th birthday, my lovely wife Amber presented me with a gift that was from her and both sets of our parents: a four day writing retreat at a cabin in northern Minnesota. Easily the best gift I have ever received, excluding the following gifts (adjusted age:enthusiasm ratio): Hungry Hungry Hippos (age 4), Ghostbusters Ecto 1, proton gun and trap (age 10), and Benjamin breaking his arm / Battletoads for NES (age...?). Now, I wasn't all filled up with joy, dancing like a Bee Gee (which we often did when we were kids) when my little brother broke his arm -- even back then, I kind of liked him. It's just a joke we had when we were kids. "Thanks for breaking your arm on MY birthday!"  However, it did lead to a happy ending. A trip to Toys R Us... oh yeah, and his arm healing.

So, anyway. I am all stocked up on supplies. Scotch, pipe tobacco, and ink. Although I am currently working on a feature length screenplay, I don't have anything specific planned for this writing retreat. Last Autumn, I fell in love with Duluth, a nearby city to the cabin I'm staying in, which faces Lake Superior. Both remind me so much of home in New England, so I already feel welcome and at peace. I'd be silly to force an agenda, so I will let my surroundings inspire me, and see what happens.

So, I'm packing up now, leaving the razor at home, and trying to make sense out of the dreams I had last night. I will post pictures and report my daily progress.

Latah!
